Dr. Muny's proposal £620. 180.
The first of these propositions is I think altogether inadmissible. The argument used by Dr Murray in support of the restriction as regards private practice, that the withdrawal, upon the removal of part of the increase of Salary given in May in consideration of the imposition of that restriction is in effect to call upon him to "contribute from the private exercise of his professional skill the sum of £300 to the public funds of the Colony" is simply too absurd to require any answer.
Fotal £800.
Governor's proposal £500 used by Dr Murray in support of the restriction as regards private practice, 180.

The second proposition apparently involves merely a question as to the Amount of reduction, but it really involves something more. But this would be very objectionable, whatever may be the reduction fixed upon, or the Salary of the Colonial Surgeon should be kept quite distinct from that of the Attendants on the Lock Hospital, so that if this Institution, which is only experimental, were to be abolished, the Salary of the Medical attendant upon it might at the same time cease. If, therefore, £800
